Every year around the end of March I gather a bunch of good friends to celebrate birthdays and spring skiing. Filming is not the main subject which equals a rather short episode. Have a kick-ass start into the week!
Every year when spring comes around the corner it’s that time of the year when you have to work for untracked lines. We joined forces with Basecamp Andermatt to do so. Around Andermatt you’ll find tons of options for split boarding and the Gondola to the Gemsstock makes for easy access. We chose the “Winterhorn” which consist of a rather short ascent towards the “Gloggentürmli” ridge from where you can ride down to the road over the Gotthard pass, where the ascent towards the object of the starts.
Are you keen for some surf holidays? As soon as possible? We still have spots in our Azores surf house from April 22 until May 6.
Never heard about the Azores? That’s a small archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Most people know the islands because of the “Azores High”, a high pressure system that develops over the islands each summer. Spring, though, is surf season, and our surf villa is slowly filling up. So better be fast before the spaces are sold out ;-).
The gravityking popup-Surfcamp in Capelas, São Miguel.
From mid April to mid May, we have rented a beautiful house in Capelas, on the north coast of the main island São Miguel. Three rooms with a total of six beds are on offer, breakfast and a spacious garden with ocean view included. It’s not a normal surf camp and we don’t have guiding and lessons*. It’s more like going on a surf trip with your friends.
What we have is some local know-how, on our last trip two years ago we scanned the island for surf breaks, hot springs and the best places for spotting whales and sunsets.
We are looking forward to surfing the Azores with you this spring.
* of course we can help you getting lessons, rental cards etc., just let us know.
You may ask yourself how the hell I got into the Engadin Ski Marathon and cross country skiing?
Well, in the first place the Engadin valley is one of my favorite places for freeriding and one of the most beautiful places I know. Period. While a I was on a holiday with my brother he took part of the Engadin Ski Marathon and I went to see the famous downhill-section in the “Stazerwald”, where hundreds of spectators gather to watch thousands of participants pass the most technical part of the race. With around 10 to 20% crashing. The atmosphere took me and I decided to participate next time. That was 2014 so this year was my third marathon.
Meanwhile I really like it.
What started as a crackpot idea grew into a serious sport over the years. When you’re not 20 anymore, it’s good to make sure you stay healthy and one big part of it is working on your endurance. During the winter, apart form skinning up mountains, cross country skiing is my favorite. It’s relatively gently to your joints and it lets your eyes and mind wander through the landscape.
Not quite what I expected.
This year I had great ambitions first but as I couldn’t manage to get onto my skis before last Monday, I had to tone it down a little bit. The fact that I forgot my insoles while collecting everything at 5am didn’t help either. For the first few kilometers I was busy recalibrating my balance and getting it going. While 2:42 is still a quite acceptable time I hope I can keep up to my ambitions next year and break the 2:30 mark for the first time.
After two weeks of snowboarding, expedition member Janne Koivistoinen talks about his prejudices and what he thinks now that he has seen and ridden Greece.
That’s the story about our Great Greek Adventure so far. Stay tuned for the complete movie which will be release around mid to end April.
